THE UNITED STATES, plaintiff-appellee, vs. PEDRO BAILON, defendant-appellant.
FACTS:
On April 1, 1904, in the pueblo of Licab, Province of Nueva Ecija, the accused, Pedro Bailon, struck, beat, and wounded his wife, Paula Rayo, with a club following a disagreement between them. Paula Rayo died from the wounds inflicted. The defendant was charged with the crime of parricide. The Court of First Instance of Nueva Ecija found him guilty and sentenced him to cadena perpetua (life imprisonment) with the accessories of civil interdiction and perpetual absolute disqualification, and to pay the costs.
ISSUE:
Whether the evidence is sufficient to sustain the conviction of the defendant for the crime of parricide.
RULING:
Yes. The Supreme Court, upon examination of the proof, found the evidence sufficient to sustain the facts alleged in the complaint and to justify the sentence imposed by the trial court. The sentence of the Court of First Instance of Nueva Ecija was therefore affirmed.
