THE UNITED STATES, complainant-appellee, vs. PABLO CORPUS, defendant-appellant.
FACTS:
The accused, Pablo Corpus, was convicted in the Court of First Instance of Pangasinan for the crime of lesiones graves (serious physical injuries) as defined and penalized under Article 416, No. 3 of the Penal Code.
ISSUE:
Whether the penalty imposed by the trial court was correct in accordance with the law.
RULING:
The Supreme Court affirmed the conviction, finding that the evidence fully established the guilt of the accused. However, the Court modified the penalty imposed. The trial court had sentenced the accused to two years and four months of presidio correccional. The Supreme Court corrected this to prision correccional, which is the penalty prescribed by Article 416 of the Penal Code for the crime of lesiones graves. With this modification, the sentence was confirmed.
